How it all Began
Good things take Time…
Having gained a passion for building very early on, I have always had the feeling that building homes was my life’s purpose. Spending half of my youth in west coast cities and the other half tucked away on the Gulf Islands, I gained a perspective on the many different ways we interact with the environment and build our homes. Living close to nature, and studying BioGEography in my post-secondary studies, it became clear to me that we needed a gentler, less environmentally costly way to build and place our shelters on the land. Not only that, but it struck me that we certainly didn’t need to live in such large homes, while the vast majority of the world’s population lived in far more humble shelters. But the old saying goes, you can't complain about something if you haven’t offered an alternative, so I took the leap and in 2004 I started out on my own and built a large shop on SSI to start building small modular homes.
As life would have it, work and opportunities took me in a different direction and I spent the subsequent years (until 2019) building homes, renovating, installing secondary suites, doing custom commercial installations, building decks, barns and workshops all while creating strong relationships and happy customers.
Having the great fortune and family support to buy a property (albiet completely run down) in beautiful Revelstoke BC in 2013, my partner and I started with a tiny (200sqft) shelter and added on over the years to create our 2 bedroom, 800sqft home where we are currently raising our daughter and tending the gardens and animals.
Seeing the increase in price and demand for local housing, along with the realization that many of our friends, co-workers and family members would not be able to afford their own home, I knew I had to try again. Motivated by the wonderful and supportive Revelstoke community, and the passion of wanting to provide people the same joy and security we have found in our home, Eathwright Shelter Company Inc. was created.
The goal was/is to provide affordable small homes, with the smallest environmental footprint possible, while maintaining the resident’s health, safety and enjoyment beyond a century and for many generations.
The company has now evolved into a community of many skilled and dedicated employees, businesses, suppliers and public employees that are the core of our company, and make the dream a reality. Through intense collaboration and client feedback we have been able to create something truly visionary that serves our community in the short and long term, while providing a housing alternative at a time when it is needed most.
